Sunto

Uno degli scopi della comunicazione della Matematica diretta a un pubblico generale è quello di modificare una diffusa immagine negativa della nostra disciplina. Data la difficoltà di esporre per via diretta risultati specifici spesso si preferisce narrare storie di matematica, intersecandoli con aspetti biografici delle vite dei matematici che hanno contribuito a ottenere questi risultati. È molto naturale farlo privilegiando storie e aneddoti che si prestano facilmente a stuzzicare la curiosità del pubblico. Questo approccio non è privo di rischi, a volte ciò che narrativamente è più stimolante può anche risultare complessivamente controproducente. Quest'articolo cerca di riflettere su di un uso consapevole delle narrazioni e delle biografie nella comunicazione della matematica, capace di soppesare rischi ed opportunità, anche attraverso esempi tratti da libri di successo.
