Questo articolo è scritto da due colleghi di Rosario Strano a lui molto vicini e suoi amici stretti per tanti anni, Silvio Greco, che lo ha indirizzato nelle sue prime ricerche, e Paolo Valabrega, che ha lavorato in settori dell'Algebra commutativa affini ai suoi. In esso si presentano in forma semplice e quasi priva di formule i principali risultati scientifici ottenuti da Strano sugli anelli henseliani, le curve e le loro sezioni piane, mettendo in evidenza l'originalità del suo approccio che, partendo da considerazioni sulle sizigie, permette di ottenere molteplici e profondi risultati riguardanti il Lemma di Laudal, le curve intersezioni complete, il genere massimo di una curva. Aggiungiamo anche qualche aneddoto che mette in evidenza le sue notevoli qualità umane.
