Nervous cells from chick embryo ($6\frac{1}{2}$ days of incubation) spinal cord and muscular cells from quail embryo (9 days) and chick embryo (11 days) breast have been enzymatically dissociated and cultured in vitro in a giratory shaker. Myogenic cells were cultured for 2 days and then the spinal cord cells suspension was added to each flash. Control cultures of nervous or muscular cells alone were also set at the some density ($7 \times 10^{6}$ cell/ml). A good differentiation was observed both in control cultures and in co-cultures of the two types of cells; thus indicating that in all cases factors necessary for differentiation are present in the medium. Some contacts between the two types of cells have been observed in mixed cultures ; further observations (ultrastructural and histochemical) are in progress to provide a more complete picture of these contacts.
