Sunto

In the anaesthetized rabbit the constriction of the descending thoracic aorta induces an increase of the upstream blood pressure and a transient reduction of stroke volume and cardiac output. Then, 10-15 sec later, stroke volume recovers as a result of an increase of the ventricular ejection time. Moreover, the reflection of a positive pressure wave and of a negative flow wave from the constricted point prolongs the time to peak of blood pressure with respect to the time to peak of the blood ejection velocity.
