In the present research, homoplastic skin grafts are carried out between adult individuals of the species Triturus cristatus carnifex Laur. after the host has been inoculated with a suspension of spleen taken from the same individual from which the skin graft will subsequently be taken. A control batch is also prepared in which the homoplastic skin grafts are not preceded by any inoculation of the host. A comparison of these two batches shows that skin graftees previously stimulated by inoculation of spleen suspension are more sensitive than the controls, in that the skin grafts display earlier and more marked histological damage, particularly where the extent of lymphocytic infiltration is concerned. The authors compare these results with those from some of their previous research in which homoplastic skin grafts were preceded by host stimulation achieved by the successive grafting of spleen fragments taken from the same individual that would subsequently provide the strips of skin for grafting. They demonstrate that in both experiments the greatest histological damage is found about 50 days after the beginning of host stimulation, however the latter is achieved, and that the intensity of the host’s response to the skin graft, the evaluation of which is based on the extent of lymphocytic infiltration, varies according to the type of host stimulation used.
