The experimental induction of the intra-reproductive vernalization in Bergenia crassifolia Fritsch has been achieved, as previously published, by treating the dormant flower buds with $GA_{3}$ and/or Zeatin under summer climatic conditions. A further step in this field is now here reported and it concerns the anti-vernalization of dormant flower buds undergoing climatic vernalization (at 5°C), obtained by treatment of the flower buds themselves with ABA. Thus the role of ABA and other Quiescins in the onset or induction of dormancy (intrareproductive dormancy) of the flower buds of Bergenia has been demonstrated and some comments on this result are reported. Moreover experiments aiming at demonstrating the possible partecipation of ABA and physiologically ABA-like compounds in counteracting the pre-reproductive vernalization (the classical vernalization) are going to be reported; pre-reproductive vernalization seemingly counteracts a relative quiescence of an apical specific florigenic meristem or simply of a meristematic apical compartment. The significance of inhibitors concerning the reproductive development has been commented and experimentally supported long ago by pointing out the possibility that the competition and/or sequential alternation of certain stimiilating and inhibiting endogenous factors may control flowering in relation with different climatic situations.
