Le sonde spaziali sovietiche Venera 9 e Venera 10 hanno trasmesso fotografie della superficie del pianeta Venere, che sembra rispondente, nei luoghi di atterraggio, ad una zona desertica pietrosa paragonabile alle hammada terrestri, forse con qualche affioramento roccioso.
