The mitotic population in the spinal cord of frog embryos submitted to 23°C instead of 12°C is triple. The time of the embryonal development at 12°C being quintuple, it must be deduced that at the lower temperature the mitotic phases are lengthened more than the interphasic ones. The rate of the extraventricular mitoses increases (twice) in the spinal cord of frogs developed at 12°C. This means that the migration of the nerve cells is more influenced by the varying temperature than the cellular cycle is. The results demonstrate that the embryonal nervous system may be satisfactorily used for studies on cell motility.
