We describe two new anionic carbonylrhenates (II) and (III), obtained by bubbling carbon monoxide in an acetone solution of potassium hexaiodorhenate, until the red solution becomes green. The green salts obtained by addition of tetraalkylammonium iodide, correspond to (R₄N)[Re(CO)₂I₄](I), (R₄ = (C₄H₉)₄, (C₂H₅)₄, C₆H₅CH₂(CH₃)₃). By prolonging the action of carbon monoxide the known compound [Re(CO)₄I₂]^-(II) is formed. The green solution of compound (I) by action of ethanolic potassium hydroxide, turns orange and on addition of water gives the compound (R₄N)₂[Re(CO)₂I₄](III). The possible steric structures of compounds (I) and (III) are assigned on the basis of their i.r. spectra.
