The present work is a further contribution to the knowledge of the chromosomal complement of the Italian Anostraca. The following species were studied: Tanymastix stagnalis (L.) = Ta. lacunae (Guérin), Chirocephalus diaphanus Prév. = Ch. stagnalis Shaw, Branchinella spinosa (M. Edw.). The centromere position was shown for the first time in the chromosomes of Anostraca species, by means of colchicine added to the culture medium. The chromosomal complement of Tanymastix stagnalis consists in 18 pairs of which 13 are metacentric or submetacentric and 5 telocentric; the chromosomal complement of Chirocephalus diaphanus consists of 12 pairs of which 8 are metacentric or submetacentric and 4 telocentric; the chromosomal complement of Branchinella spinosa consists of 8 pairs of which 2 are metacentric and 6 subtelocentric or telocentric. The later chromosomal number is the lowest recorded as yet in Anostraca.
