Sunto

On the occasion of the eclipse of the Sun of March 7 th 1970, visible in Central and North America, the Rome Astronomical Observatory organised an expedition having the following programme: a) measurement to a high degree of temporal resolution of the obscuration at the extreme edge of the Sun; b) photometry of the inner corona by white and polarised light. In the present Note the authors report on the methods and instruments used and give some preliminary results.
