After administration of colchicine and thyroxine to young toad tadpoles, an increase of the extraventricular mitoses in the CNS is seen: it means that both drugs affect the ventricular migration of dividing cells. The increase of the extraventricular mitoses being independent of the mitotic ratio and of the nervous differentiation, it is inferred that the ventricular migration in the developing nervous system is produced by the modification of the cytoplasmic viscosity, i.e. by intrinsic cellular events.
