In 7 cm. long specimens of Carassius auratus L. was removed the dorsocaudal quadrant of the retina. The return of the vision is observed at the 100th day. The morphological regeneration begins by the mitotic activity arising at the 7th day after the operation and reaching the highest values at the 30th day; then the mitotic activity decreases. When mitotic activity reaches its highest values a thin layer of cells lines the pigmented epithelium of injured parts; this layer thickens and starts its differentiation. Morphological regeneration of the retina is nearly complete at the fourth month. Regeneration is carried on by neuroblast-like elements localized in the anterior border and in the neural retina; the coming work would make clear if also the pigmented epithelium of fishes is involved in the retinal regeneration.
