I.r. spectra of polycristallyne thin films of orthoboric acid H3BO3 in presence of acetonitrile, acetone, benzene, pyridine and triethylamine vapours are reported and discussed. Pyridine and triethylamine vapours promote surface modifications of H3BO3 films with formation of pentaborate [B5O6(0H)4]- hydrated ions and hydroxyborate B(OH)4- ions. An intuitive interpretation of this behaviour is given according to the correlated H-bond structure of surface layers of H3BO3 films and to the types of acid centers (Lewis and Brönsted).
