Sunto

A mineralogical study of two basic hydrated sulphates, serpierite and devillite, was carried out. Both minerals are monoclinic with similar lattice parameters; serpierite, Ca(Cu,Zn)4(OH)6(SO4)2-3H2O, belongs to C2/c and devillite, CaCu4(OH)6(SO4)2-3H2O,to P21/C space group. Their X-ray diffraction patterns are given, as well as morphological, chemical and optical properties. In spite of the difference in space groups and in some other properties, probably due to the presence of Zn in serpierite, the two minerals exhibit interesting analogies which can be referred to well marked structural similarities.
