Sunto

A few samples of recent biological sediments were analysed by gas-chromatography in their content in fatty acids. The distribution of the fatty acids is able to supply adequate characterization of the various sediments. Earth and fresh-water sediments are well differentiated from one onother on the basis of 16 : 0, which is over 34% in analysed fresh-water sediments, while in earth sediments it is not more than 25,1%. The presence of polyunsaturated fatty acids was also noted in the marine sediments.
