The effects of nicotine on rate of acquisition of escape-avoidance conditioning by 30 day-old Wistar albino rats in a shuttle-box were investigated. The performances of the untreated Ss were lower in young than in adult rats of the same strain. The enhancement of rate of avoidance conditioning by nicotine was proportionally much greater in the young Ss.
