The authors have examined by electron microscopy and diffraction, as well by X-ray diffraction, the newly formed products which originate, at ordinary temperature and in the presence of excess lime solution, from a series of synthetic glasses with composition lying in the vicinity of the blast-furnace slag area of the CaO-Al₂O₃-SiO₂ system and gradually leaving that area. The investigation, which is to be considered as an extension of previous researches, indicated the calcium silicate hydrate, the tetracalcium aluminate hydrate and the gehlenite hydrate, as the main products which originate under the action of lime solution, hydrated phases that are similar to those previously revealed by industrial and synthetic glasses with composition similar to that of the above mentioned blast-furnace slags. The investigation leads to the conclusion that within the limits of the examined compositions, the initial constitution of the glasses promotes only the predominance, the shortage, or sometime the disappearence, of some of the above mentioned hydrated phases.
