Observations have been made, by fractional centrifugation, on the distribution of acid glycerophosphatase activity in sucrose homogenates of larval and pupal tissues of Musea domestica. The sedimentation and activation properties of the enzymatic activity indicate the localization in subcellular particles similar to Vertebrate lysosomes. The ratio between sedimentable and soluble activity and the activation in total homogenates by Triton or hypotonic treatment are the same immature larvae and in histolysing pupae. These data indicate that during the hystolysis of larval tissues in metamorphosing Musca there is not a release of acid phosphatase like that observed in some other processes of spontaneous and pathological regression.
