Peculiar structures, resembling «intracytoplasmic» desmosomes are present in the cytoplasm of some glial cells in the spinal cord of the Lamprey. The process through which these structures possibly originate is discussed, and the possibility is stressed that these displaced desmosomes can be considered as morphological «markers», of a renewal of discreet regions of the plasma membrane: that is, of a membrane flow.
