The anatomical and histological structure of the alimentary system in a Polychaetuos anellid has been revised. In the ventro-caudal region of the pharynx a little salivary gland has been described. The oesophagus of Korschelt has been interpreted as a true stomach, lined with simple and stratified ciliated epithelium having at least two distinct types of gland cells. The stomach is continuos with the gut, which is formed by a simple tall columnar epithelium with absortive and secreting cells. The hindgut, lined with a lower columnar epithelium, ends in a short and narrow terminal gut borded with cilia. Histochemical observations are going in order to verify the nature of the gland cells described.
